Federal Correctional Institution, Allenwood Low (FCI Allenwood Low) is a low-security United States federal prison for male inmates located in Allenwood, Pennsylvania. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. Opened in 1992, the facility is part of the Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex, which also includes FCI Allenwood Medium and USP Allenwood. The complex is located approximately 75 miles north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

FCI Allenwood Low is a low-security federal correctional institution housing male offenders. As of October 2025, the facility houses approximately 1,035 inmates, above its rated capacity of 916 inmates. Inmates reside in dormitories featuring two and three-person cubicles.

The facility emphasizes rehabilitation and prison programming, with the goal of ensuring that inmates successfully reenter society once released and become productive, law-abiding citizens.

Inmates are paid a small hourly rate for their work which they can use to purchase items from the commissary.

Mental Health Services

All inmates receive an intake interview with a psychologist. Mental health services include:

  • 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention
  • Individual counseling for family, interpersonal, adjustment, or personal concerns
  • Educational and therapeutic groups (stress management, anger management)

In December 2024, the facility adopted updated BOP suicide prevention reforms including enhanced mental health screenings upon intake, data-driven risk assessments, and expanded peer support programs.

Health Services

Health services cover routine medical and dental care, including physical examinations, emergency treatment, and medication distribution. Inmates can access routine care by submitting a triage form, while emergency medical care is readily available through any staff member.
