Notes from Alumni

  • A former resident shared on Prison Professors: "The grounds are well kept and the building design matches many federal prisons. When I began my sentence, passed through FCI Talladega. It was one of the first federal prisons where I walked the compound. I wanted to stay to serve my sentence there."
  • The camp offers the RDAP, though notably the main FCI does not have this program—making camp placement particularly valuable for those seeking drug treatment benefits.
  • Vocational training at the camp includes ServSafe, Carpentry 1 & 2, and Forklift certification.
  • The facility is notable for the 1991 hostage crisis when 121 Cuban inmates who had been incarcerated since the 1980 Mariel boatlift took over the facility. The ten-day standoff was resolved without loss of life.
